This is a rural area of single-family homes. Lake Carolina, a private lake that residents share, is one of the main attractions of this neighborhood. Highway 63 is nearby, providing easy access to downtown Columbia to the south.

Rocky Fork Lake Conservation Area covers over 2,200 acres, of which 300 acres are lakes. There are more than 60 lakes in the area, 20 of which are fishable. Rocky Fork Lake at over 50 acres is by far the largest. It has a boat launch ramp with a dock which is accessible to the physically impaired. This area was acquired by the state in 1979. The land had been strip-mined for decades; the result was that the land needed to be replanted and brought back to life. Today, it offers fishing, hiking, primitive camping, hunting, and a shooting range.

Finger Lakes State Park is a green space that is a quiet, wooded area filled with finger-shaped lakes where visitors can swim from a sandy beach, go fishing, kayak, or canoe. There are camp sites both with and without electricity. Also available is over 70 miles of trails that can be used by ATVs, as well as a new motocross bike track.

Children in the neighborhood attend Derby Ridge Elementary School. This is a popular local school with high approval ratings by both parents and students.
