Hattiesburg, MS Apartments for Rent

If not anything else moves you into a Hattiesburg apartment, let it be the food. This city’s highlight is the rich flavorful dishes of the South. Your long-awaited move is approaching, and it’s your chance to rent an apartment, relax, and treat yourself to Hattiesburg’s signature meals. This is not just the ordinary dining experience, oh no, but someplace storied for its fine cuisine. It’s been celebrated in the pages of numerous food and travel magazines.

Enough about the magnificent meals; Hattiesburg has much more to offer than just satisfying taste buds. Hattiesburg is home to “Southern Miss,” also known as the University of Mississippi, or USM. It is a highly-respected research university dating back to 1910. In addition to great food and great atmosphere, you’ll enjoy great college sports, cheering on the Golden Eagles! The football team plays at MM Roberts Stadium, and the basketball team plays at Reed Green Coliseum.

As a happy medium between a laid-back aura and an upbeat flair, you‘ll feel the vibe known as “Hub City.”  And it is definitely a hub – Hattiesburg is the county seat of Forrest County, it contains USM as well as William Carey University, and Camp Shelby (a large National Guard base) is located just south of Hattiesburg.

Things to Do in Hattiesburg:

On Thanksgiving Day in 1929, it cost only six cents for admission to the Saenger Theater movie palace in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Today, the 997-seat Saenger has become a celebrated fixture in the heart of historic downtown, surrounded by an array of award-winning, locally-owned restaurants, all within walking distance. This is a great place to go and enjoy live entertainment with friends and family.

Downtown Hattiesburg is a pedestrian-friendly strip of art galleries, antique stores, specialty boutiques, bookstores, cafes, and coffee shops. If you are looking for a night out on the town, you’ll find great nightlife in Hattiesburg. You will always be able to shop ‘til you drop, eat well, and enjoy a beautiful city because you chose to rent a Hattiesburg apartment.

Some of the best Hattiesburg restaurants are the Jutamas Thai Restaurant, Georgia Blue, Leatha’s Bar-B-Que Inn, Branch, and Keg & Barrel. The food list ranges from drunken noodles with chicken, real deal BBQ, beef and pork ribs, chicken and rib eyes, fried green tomato BLT with sweet potato flavored waffles – and finish it off with the sweet, succulent, delectable desserts at the Crescent City Grill in Hattiesburg.

One of the cool places to visit here is the Thirsty Hippo. It’s a local bar in beautiful downtown Hattiesburg that gives you the feel that you’ve just stepped into New Orleans. It has a wonderful courtyard in the back that has a fish pond and giant oak trees towering over the entire area.

You have to experience “The Hippo.” They serve beer and several times a week you can find any of the local or out-of-town bands playing there. It’s truly one of the treasures of Hattiesburg. It’s located on Main St. in Hattiesburg just before the railroad tracks. It’s easy to miss so drive slow. The only hint that it is there is a small wooden sign hanging above the door.

A great summer destination is Flint Creek Water Park. This location features four giant waterslides plus fishing, swimming, water skiing, boating, hiking, and camping. Wanting to wiggle your toes in the sand? Pep’s Point is a spring-fed lake facility offering a sandy beach, swimming, water slides, boat rentals, and picnic areas.

Take a trip to the Library of Hattiesburg. It is home to a unique circular mural with historical and contemporary images of South Mississippi. This place is jammed with historical information. The Degrummond Children’s Literature Museum is an awesome spot to allow the kids to learn and have fun at the same time. It is located on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.

What to Consider When Moving to Hattiesburg:

When pioneer William H. Hardy founded a town in Mississippi, he named it for his wife, Hattie. That was in 1882, and today Hattiesburg is a popular city, home to the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University. Hattiesburg is called the “Hub City” because of its history as the “hub” of the lumber and railroad industries.

Hattiesburg is about 75 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico, just northwest of De Soto National Forest. Apartments in Hattiesburg provide endless outdoor activities, from trips to the coast to hiking and camping in the nearby national forest. The Hattiesburg Zoo at Kamper Park has a splash pad, a playground, a carousel, and 60 animal species.

Local artists captivate spectators during HubFest. It is an annual arts and heritage street festival held in Historic Downtown Hattiesburg. Another great aspect about Hattiesburg is that you have access to many major cities, but you get to live in a quieter environment.
