As one of the busiest National Guard training sites in the country, Fort Indiantown Gap serves all branches of the military and trains over 100,000 troops per year, and it is the headquarters of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Fort Indiantown Gap dates back to 1755 when Pennsylvania colonists established a fortification against the Susquehannock Indians.
Fort Indiantown Gap surrounds Memorial Lake State Park, a 230-acre park established in 1945 to honor Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers who served in WWI and WWII. The park is a natural monument and is a popular destination for ice skating, cross-country skiing, fishing, ice fishing, and hiking.
Located about 23 miles northeast of Harrisburg, there are several great areas for apartments in the Fort Indiantown Gap area. Harrisburg is within commuting distance, as is Hershey and Lebanon, both of which are about 15 miles from the fort. Closer to “The Gap,” you’ll find communities such as Grantville, Skyline View, Palmyra, Jonestown, and Fredericksburg. The post office address for Fort Indiantown Gap is Annville.
