With a history that dates back to 1938, Otis Air National Guard Base started out as Otis Air Force Base, named for Lt. Frank “Jesse” Otis. It nearly closed in the 1970s but was eventually realigned to become Otis Air National Guard Base. Current units include the 102nd Intelligence Wing, the 267th Combat Communications Squadron, and the Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.
A landmark location for explorers throughout history, Cape Cod was given its name in 1602. In 1620 Pilgrims entered Cape Harbor and landed near present-day Provincetown. Cape Cod is part of Barnstable County, formed in 1685 as part of the Plymouth Colony. Today, Cape Cod is a popular destination for tourists.
Otis Air National Guard Base area apartments can be found in several communities on Cape Cod and nearby. The base is located between Sagamore and Falmouth with Wareham just opposite the base across Buzzards Bay. Other nearby communities include Mashpee, Osterville, Hyannis, and Barnstable.
