Travis Air Force Base Area Apartment Housing

The largest air mobility organization in the Air Force – the 60th Air Mobility Wing – is located at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. The 60 AMW is responsible for worldwide strategic airlift and aerial refueling missions. Travis AFB was built in 1942. It is one of the area’s largest employers with roughly 7,260 active military personnel, about 3,770 civilian employees, and another 4,250 in the Air Force Reserve.

Travis AFB is located on the east side of Fairfield. Situated roughly halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento, Fairfield is perfectly located for trips into both major cities. It is also convenient to Oakland, which is about 30 miles southwest of Fairfield. Another popular destination, Napa Valley, is less than 19 miles from Fairfield. In addition to Travis AFB, Fairfield is the county seat of Solano County and home to the famous Jelly Belly factory.

There are plenty of options for apartments near Travis AFB in this busy area. Fairfield and Vacaville are the two largest nearby cities. Suisun City is a slightly smaller city situated just south of Fairfield. Davis and Vallejo are well within commuting distance, both roughly 30 minutes from the base.
