One of the oldest cities in America, Taunton has acquired several nicknames over its long history. As the site where the silver industry began, Taunton has long been known as “Silver City,” but people also call this historic town “Christmas City” because of the massive light display in its downtown area every December. Yet for its residents, Taunton is known as the perfect place to call home: with close proximity to major cities, opportunities for recreation, and a beautiful historic downtown area, Taunton offers all the components for ideal apartment renting.

Today, the silver industry continues to have an impact on Taunton’s economy. Reed & Barton, a silversmith manufacturer that was established in Taunton in 1824, is still based in the city, and it designed the medals for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Also, the Myles Standish Industrial Park provides many jobs for residents in the area, and it is one of the largest industrial parks in New England.

College students find apartment renting in Taunton to be convenient, as there are several colleges and universities situated nearby. These include Bridgewater State College, Stonehill College, Bristol Community College, Massasoit Community College, Brown University, and Rhode Island School of Design.

Now the site of Taunton’s holiday lights display, the Taunton Green is the city’s downtown square area that was once used as a training ground during the American Revolution. Besides the lights display each year, the Green often is used as a site for community festivals and events. One of nine designated historic districts in Taunton, the Green is great for viewing historic architecture on a leisurely stroll.

When you’re feeling a little more active, there are several parks in the area for recreation, as well as the Taunton Memorial Skating Rink. Taunton is also centrally located for exciting attractions in Providence, Boston, Plymouth, and Cape Rod. Rent an apartment in Taunton, and you’ll experience quaint, quiet living while still being in proximity to some of New England’s most exciting cities.
