The second-largest city in Maryland is also one of the most beautiful. Frederick was founded in 1745 by German settlers. The city is rich in history and is located between famous Civil War battlegrounds Gettysburg, Monocacy, and Antietam. Frederick features a 40-block historic district and is home to the area’s largest employer, Fort Detrick.

Frederick is ideally located one hour northwest of Washington, DC and about 45 minutes west of Baltimore. Frederick is known for its arts and culture and is home to 10 art galleries, three theaters, and the Maryland Shakespeare Festival. Frederick is a beautiful city with award-winning public art and murals including the Community Bridge, known by residents as the “mural bridge.”

Your Frederick apartment search will lead you to several great neighborhoods filled with row houses and townhomes. Frederick has many historic buildings dating back to the 1700s, and historic Downtown Frederick was named one of America’s “Prettiest Painted Places” in 2012. You’ll love shopping and dining downtown – which, in addition to being beautiful and entertaining – is dog-friendly. Frederick is also bicycle-friendly with several bike trails and very pedestrian-friendly.
