Situated 32 miles southeast of Evansville on the banks of the Ohio River, Owensboro is the third largest city in Kentucky. Originally settled in 1797, the city incorporated in 1817. Today, many residents are choosing Owensboro to rent apartments because of the growing industry and southern, river town lifestyle.

Owensboro is the industrial hub of western Kentucky. Major manufacturing includes aluminum, distilling, coal mining, and more. Locally-produced items include electrical products, office furniture, truck frames — even spaghetti sauce. Owensboro Medial Health Systems is the largest employer and boasts a state of the art hospital. Or, you can work for Unilever Foods of North America making Ragu spaghetti sauce. Owensboro is also home to Kimberly Clark paper products.

Owensboro is known as the Sports Capital of the World. Each year the city hosts numerous football, soccer, baseball, and softball tournaments. It is home to the BPA World Series each summer. NASCAR fans will be happy to know that several of NASCAR’s greatest drivers started their racing careers in Owensboro — Darrel and Michael Waltrip, as well as Jeremy Mayfield. Love the outdoors? Be sure to stop by Ben Hawes State Park. You can picnic, hike, and even golf at the park.

Proud of their long-standing traditions, Owensboro is known as the Festival City, holding 20 annual festivals and events, including the annual International BBQ Festival, held in May. The festival includes live performances, square dancing, and more. Another great tradition in Owensboro is the “Friday After 5″ summer concert series, free concerts held downtown on the riverfront.

If you want all the conveniences of a big city but with the comfort of a small town….then come live in Owensboro!
