Prestonia is a neighborhood in southern Louisville, Kentucky, about 13 minutes southeast of the downtown area. It is bounded by Preston Highway on the west, Interstate 264 on the south, and the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks on the east. Prestonia is in the 40213 zip code area, within Jefferson County. The neighborhood was named after the local roadway, which in turn was named after Colonel William Preston, an early city landowner. Many of the streets here are named after counties in Kentucky.
The Prestonia neighborhood is largely residential with a few commercial offerings scattered throughout, especially along its western boundary – Preston Highway. The residences here are mostly single-family homes on modest lots. Schools within walking distance of Prestonia include the Camp Taylor Elementary School on Belmar Drive.
This conveniently located community is within a short distance of a variety of area amenities. Just on the other side of the interstate intersection to the southwest of Prestonia is the Louisville International Airport. On the other side of the neighborhood’s eastern boundary is the Audubon Country Club. For those residents who desire a private membership club, this well-established one offers a championship 18-hole course, swimming pools, tennis facilities, and other amenities.
The Louisville Zoo on Trevilian Way is also within walking distance of Prestonia and is a popular weekend destination for area families. Within a few miles north of the community are several medical centers, community parks, and higher education options. The latter include Bellarmine College and the University of Louisville campus, which hosts the Papa John’s Cardinal football stadium.
