Norwood is a city roughly 11 miles east of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, within Jefferson County. This community is bounded on the north by New La Grange Road/Highway 146 and on the south by Shelbyville Road/U.S. Highway 60. It extends roughly to South Park Place and Norwood Drive on the west and Hidden Oak Way and Hidden Oak Place on the east. Interstate 264 runs past the neighborhood on the west. Norwood is in the 40222 zip code area.

As of 2009, roughly 440 people lived in Norwood. The city is primarily composed of residential areas, with single-family homes situated on heavily wooded lots. However, the community’s southern boundary – Shelbyville Road – offers a variety of commercial options. Two shopping centers – Oxmoor Center and the St. Matthew’s Mall – are situated just on the other side of this road as well.

Less than two miles east of the Norwood neighborhood is one of the area’s higher education options – the Isaac Shelby Campus University of Louisville. A few miles southwest of the community, along either side of I-64, are two prominent area medical centers – Norton Suburban Hospital and Baptist Hospital – East. These medical facilities not only provide easy access to quality health care, but they are some of the area’s major employers as well.

The residents of Norwood could be considered quite affluent for Kentucky. As of 2009, the median household income here was $74,142, almost double the state average of $40,072. This means that residents can likely afford to be members of the Big Spring Country Club, located a few miles southwest of the neighborhood along I-64. In addition to an 18-hole golf course, this country club also offers amenities like swimming pools, fitness facilities, and tennis courts. Just west of the country club, on the opposite side of Bowman Field, is a popular area park – Seneca Park.
