Newburg Neighborhood in Louisville, KY

Newburg Neighborhood

Formerly its own city in Jefferson County, Newburg is now considered a neighborhood in southeast Louisville, Kentucky. This community is bounded by Highway 1747/Fern Valley Road on the south and Shepherdsville Road on the east. On the west, it is bounded by Loretta Street, Preston Highway, Gilmore Lane and Breitenstein Avenue. On the north, it extends to the railroad tracks, Jennings Lane, Produce Road, Poplar Level Road and East Indian Trail. The zip code for Newburg is 40213.

The village of Newburg was settled in the early 19th century by German immigrants. As of 2007, this large community was home to more than 21,160 residents. It contains parts of several smaller communities, including Edgewood, Poplar Hills, Whitner and Lynnview. It is a nice neighborhood with little crime and plenty of nearby amenities.

Newburg residents are within a short drive of several popular area attractions. The Louisville International Airport is just outside of community bounds to the west, on the other side of I-65.

A few miles north, on the other side of I-264, are a variety of amenities. Residents of Newburg head to this area to visit the Louisville Zoo, a popular family attraction, especially on the weekends. Also in this area are several medical centers, Bellarmine College and the University of Louisville campus.

A few miles further north is the heart of downtown Louisville, which offers no shortage of things to see and do, including cultural attractions, entertainment, dining and shopping options.
