Crescent Hills Apartments for Rent
Just east of downtown Louisville lies the neighborhood of Crescent Hills, once known as Beargrass for its location on a ridge overlooking the two forks of Beargrass Creek. Today, this upscale neighborhood, bounded by North Ewing Avenue, the city limits of South Matthews, Brownsboro Road, and Lexington Road, continues its historical tradition of community spirit, which was captured by the 1908 Crescent Hill Improvement Club.
The neighborhood is bisected by Frankfort Road, once a pioneer trail of the 1780s. It later became the Louisville-Lexington Turnpike, and today is known as Frankfort Road. The neighborhood itself initially attracted the prominent citizens of Louisville, who built their summer homes in this pleasing neighborhood.
Residents of the Crescent Hills neighborhood take pride in the remarkable turnaround this community has enjoyed in recent years, which now finds the area one of the most livable in the city of Louisville. Described as one of the South’s best comeback cases, the neighborhood is now a community with a bustling business corridor, one whose historic local library was saved from destruction, and a community focused on maintaining beautiful green spaces throughout the community.
Amenities like dining, shopping, and the arts are all within walking distance of residential homes in Crescent Hills. Residents can take full advantage of outdoor activities at the Crescent Hill Reservoir and Park and the Crescent Hills Golf Course.
One of the leading historic features of this community is the Italianate Peterson-Dumesnil House, which was built by prominent Louisville architect Henry Whiteson in 1869 for tobacco magnate Joseph Peterson. It later became a teachers’ club, unique in the nation. Today it hosts tours and community social galas. The Peterson-Dumesnil House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
