The neighborhood of Horn lies in Iowa City, Iowa. The southern border of Horn touches Highway 1, and the northern border reachs Mormon Trek Boulevard. The easternmost point lies at the railroad passing under Melrose Avenue, and its westernmost point again follows Mormon Trek Boulevard.
A large area within the northern part of Horn is occupied by the University of Iowa, though its campus spans far beyond this region. The area within Horn is part of the Hawkeye Campus, and it includes the Finkbine Golf Course and clubhouse. This championship golf course is home the university’s men and women golf teams, and it is open to the public. The University Athletic Club sits right next door.
South of the campus are primarily residential areas. Housing is situated along bending roadways with plenty of mature trees and greenery.
Villa Park serves the local community with six and a half acres of park space that includes a playground, picnic tables, and grills. The park is located on MacBride Drive within the neighborhood’s boundaries.
Children between kindergarten and grade 6 attend school close to home at Horn Elementary School. This school was named after Dr. Ernest Horn, who was a professor of education at the University of Iowa. He gained national recognition for his work, and he is still known by many as the “Father of Spelling Research.”
In the area around Highway 1, Horn residents have access to dining and shopping. The University of Iowa Museum of Art offers one of the top university art collections in the country.
