Greenwood Park is located within the Westwood neighborhood. It is the home of the Des Moines Art Center. The collection at the art center is only surpassed by the amazing architecture of the building that houses it. It is a combination of the work of three of the premier architects of the 20th century, Eliel Saarinen, I.M. Pei, and Richard Meier. Among the artists whose work is on display at the art center are John Singer Sargent, Edvard Munch and Henri Matisse. Greenwood Park is also the home of the Sylvan Theater which was built in 1937 and today is a popular site for wedding and other outdoor events.
The Clair and Miles Mills Rose Garden is also located in Greenwood Park. In the summer and fall the area is sweet with the perfume of all the roses. There are paths to walk and enjoy both the sight and the scent of this garden.
