The neighborhoods of Mondamin Presidential and King Irving participate in a program called Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods. Des Moines was one of four cities chosen as a pilot for this neighborhood action plan. A coalition of neighborhood teams and volunteers helped design their action plan.

Benefits resulting from the extensive funding and community team efforts have already surfaced as neighborhood associations plan a Weatherization Fair, Job Fairs, and other community events. Projects are also planned for park and playground improvements. Neighborhood pride through restoration of older homes and community support for revitalization projects continue to grow in Mondamin Presidential.

Located within walking distance, the John R. Grubb YMCA provides recreational activities and organized events for a wide variety of interests. Other recreational venues are available in the extended downtown area.
