Guide to Davenport

Davenport Apartments For Rent

Davenport is part of the Quad Cities, a terrific Midwestern area centered on family and fun. The Mississippi River, riverboat cruises, live music, festivals, historic sites, casinos, outdoor recreation, biking trails, arts, culture, golf, wineries, microbreweries, and shopping all provide great experiences. Most importantly, the manners of the Midwestern friendliness will rub off on you! Their values may have you permanently moving to this big, beautiful city, which delivers fun-loving happiness for your new abode.

Downtown is the heart and soul of Davenport, Iowa, and within this urban core you’ll discover the community’s unique character, history, and future.  This city is a hub for entertainment, business, art and culture, shopping, and civic service.  When you’re here to live, which you should be, Davenport offers you ample amounts of personality. You might be surprised how much this growing city has to offer.

Things to Do in Davenport:

When you want a break, try one of Davenport’s unique beverages. Ever tried sweet potato beer? It’s just one of the delicious concoctions brewed up by local breweries at the Front Street Brewery in Davenport. More surprisingly, in this city minors under 21 are able to drinking legally if — and only if — they are in culinary arts school! Bon appetit!  Yet, any bar or restaurant owners that can legally sell alcohol are prohibited from drinking any alcohol in that establishment after it’s closed.

The Adler Theatre in Davenport is a uniquely-designed, beautiful performing arts venue. The theatre hosts both the symphony and the ballet, and it showcases several Broadway-touring plays throughout the year. This place will surely draw you near the city until you’re signing your name on the dotted line to be a resident at a Davenport apartment.

Biaggi’s is an Italian restaurant that you’ll fall head-over-heels for. One of the most-ordered meals is the crab cake appetizer. It is superb! For dinner, the chicken parmesan or eggplant parmesan are both extremely good. Don’t forget about the bread; it is some of the softest, warmest breads you’ll ever taste! The Shiraz drink is a nice top-off; very smooth and tasty.

Do you want a natural taste of Mexican food? La Rancherita is a restaurant that you do not want to pass up. They are 5-star rated and the food is phenomenal. Make sure you try the vegetarian burrito and the queso blanco dip! There is also fresh salsa and the steak burrito is always a winner.

People from all walks of life are migrating to urban lofts and apartments to enjoy Davenport’s lifestyle.  From young students and professionals to families, these units have a wide variety of individuality that can cater to different needs and exceed expectations. Shopping waits around the corner from your lovely new place. Stop by Hotel Blackhawk, and while you’re in the neighborhood, visit Abernathy’s to find unique clothing and accessories. The hottest trends in women’s fashion are always on display at the Ruby Slipper, and if you’re on the hunt for something a bit more classic, check out Trash Can Annie’s Vintage Clothing. These low prices and fancy threads will make the deposit on your new Davenport apartment a piece of cake.

How cool is it to drive to your destination in classic style? Find the classic car of your dreams at Klemme’s Klassic Kars or Veit’s Vettes, and of course, you can always find unique gifts at the Figge Art Museum Gift Shop, the German American Heritage Center Gift Shop, and Visitors Center at Union Station. So many places, so little time to absorb it all; are you ready to move here and be a part it? Then choose an apartment in Davenport!

What to Consider When Moving to Davenport:

Ever see a black cat and think about the superstitions associated with them? What about black squirrels? What a sight to see. Many visitors and new residents notice the black squirrels when they come to this city. They are quite unusual and hard to miss. While they look very different, black squirrels are just a variety of grey squirrels. They are rare, but can be found in various parts of the Midwest.

Some amazing people lived in Davenport and developed gadgets still used today. Alexander Victor from Davenport, Iowa, invented the first electric washing machine for the White Lily Company. He then went on to invent an amateur motion picture camera and projector and started the Victor Animatograph Corporation in Davenport. This company manufactured the first 16mm motion picture projector, and became a leader in the field of motion picture technology.

Just another fun fact: did you know Walt Disney applied for his first job at the Victor Animatograph Corp. in Davenport? And they didn’t hire him! Whoa. I bet he was glad he never received a call-back.

Davenport has several neighborhoods dating back to the 1840s. The original city plot was around current-day Ripley and 5th Streets, where Antoine LeClaire had built his house. The city can be divided into five areas: downtown, central, east end, near north and northwest, and west end. Davenport apartments are surrounded by many architectural designs such as the Victorian, Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, and others. Many of the original neighborhoods were inhabited by German settlers. Davenport often makes national headlines when the Mississippi River floods. You just never know when there will be an incident concerning the rain with the river.

Overall, Davenport is considered to have a humid continental climate. Summers are very warm to hot with high levels of humidity. Winters have cold temperatures and often high winds, with snow likely from November through February. Flooding can be a problem in Davenport due to the lack of a flood wall.

Why Davenport Apartments Are Hot:

The people are hot! You’ll never find a more genuine, mannered, respectful amount of people coming from any other city. If you do, their ancestors were probably born here! You will love the “my-house is your- house” feel when you arrive into the city. The food is great. The people are positive. If you ever decide on starting a family here, it’ll be your best choice. Everything from the music, food, and people will make you glad you chose to rent an apartment in Davenport.
