General “Mad” Anthony Wayne built a fort at the confluence of three rivers in 1794. Earning a reputation as a bold commander during the Revolutionary War, Wayne was promoted to major general in 1783. A full-scale replica of the fort is open to visitors.
Johnny Appleseed, who is honored with a 12-acre memorial gravesite, was born John Chapman. He was an American pioneer nurseryman who became a legend. He is celebrated annually with the Fall Pioneer Festival.
Fort Wayne has 86 parks, several museums, great shopping, restaurants, and theaters. It is a beautiful city, titled a “Tree City USA” 18 years in a row. Often named one of the most livable cities in the US, Fort Wayne’s apartment rentals are highly desirable.
