Jacobsville is a neighborhood located in the city of Evansville, Indiana. It is part of Vanderburgh County. Jacobsville is roughly rectangular in shape and the northern border is formed by West Diamond Avenue. North Garvin Street and Stringtown Road form the western boundary and to the south is West Lloyd Expressway, John Street and Division Street. The western border is made up of North First Avenue. The area is a combination of residential single family homes, apartment units, businesses, and commercial properties.
Garvin Park is located within the Jacobsville neighborhood. This historic park was laid out in 1915. The area was originally known as Garvin’s Grove and was the private garden of Thomas Garvin, a prominent banker and attorney. His heirs sold the 90 acres to the city in 1915 and the purchase expanded the parks system. Today the park features tennis courts, a playground, pool, lake, and multipurpose ball fields. It is also home to the Evansville Otters Baseball Field.
Other parks in the vicinity of the Jacobsville neighborhood include Lamasco Park, Helfrich Park, and Franklin Park. The Rose Hill Cemetery and Locust Hill Cemetery are located nearby. Skylane Airport is northwest of the neighborhood and the Evansville Regional Airport is located north east of Jacobsville.
Schools in the area include Central Child Care, Delaware Elementary School, Signature School, Evansville Vanderburgh School, Evansville Lutheran School, North High School, Reitz Memorial High School, Mater Dei High School, and Bosse Benjamin High School. The University of Evansville also has a campus in the area.
