A charming village about 15 miles east of St. Louis, Shiloh was once an area known as “Three Springs.” It was a place where churches held camp meetings in the early 1800s. The Shiloh Meeting House was soon built, and this log building became a long-running church. The village took its name from the meeting house.

Engelmann Farm is a 154-acre farm built in 1835. It is one of the oldest farmsteads in the state and includes two historic houses, as well as a cemetery. St. Clair County, the oldest county in Illinois, is home to several other historic sites and landmarks, including the neighboring Belleville Historic District. Cahokia Mounds State Park protects the remaining 80 of 120 earthwork mounds built five centuries before Europeans arrived to the area. At 2,200 acres, the Cahokia Mounds is the largest archaeological site of the Mississippian culture and is one of the nation’s 21 World Heritage Sites.
