Apartments for Rent in Northlake, IL(show city information)
“The City of Friendly People” isn’t just Northlake’s motto, it is an accurate description of this suburban city about 12 miles west of downtown Chicago. The community, which takes its name from the intersection of North Avenue and Lake Street, began in 1941 for returning WWII soldiers. The houses were put up quickly and were basically shells, consisting of outside walls only. It was up to the homeowners to finish the interior of their new home. As the homes were built rapidly without much planning, there were no sidewalks or curbs, streetlights, or even sewers. The veterans are credited with building the town to what it is today – a cozy community complete with beautiful parks and top-rated schools.
With nearly 800 businesses and a population of about 12,000, Northlake isn’t little – but it does exude a quiet, small-town charm. The Centerpoint Preserve is a 32-acre park located in the heart of the city. The park includes a path for walking, jogging, biking, and exercising at its different workout stations. The park also includes a dog park and public art.
