The Collier Heights neighborhood in northwest Atlanta, Georgia appears to be a typical, upper-middle-class suburb with ranch-style houses and wide, manicured lawns. But the simplicity of this neighborhood is deceiving — this isn’t your average suburban community. In fact, it’s historic.
Most of the homes were built in the 1950s by African-American planners for Atlanta’s up-and-coming African-American middle class. This neighborhood, listed as a National Historic Site, has been featured in Ebony and Jet magazines.
Collier Heights is one of Atlanta’s wealthiest communities. Famous residents include actress Jasmine Guy and politician Cynthia McKinney.
Collier Heights Park features a large playground and outdoor fitness stations.
