Within a half mile along East 9 Mile Road, residents can take in a movie, eat at a local restaurant or Pizza Hut, stop at the pharmacy, or spend the afternoon at Drummond Park and the John R. Jones, Jr. Athletic Complex, watching youth baseball. Also within a half mile are a Walmart Supercenter and an Office Depot, along North Palafox Road. Home Depot and Lowe’s are near the intersection of West 9 Mile Road and North Palafox Road.

Pensacourt, one of the city’s most comprehensive fitness centers, is also within walking distance. With a pool, water exercise programs, tennis courts, and exercise areas, it’s a popular workout spot with Tall Pines residents.

Recreation areas are not hard to find in Pensacola. The main beach that everyone knows and loves, with its long pier, beachside vendors, and long white sand beaches, is always popular. The pier stretches 1,471 feet into the emerald green water and is a favorite place to walk, watch wildlife, and, of course, to fish. It is one of the best-known and most-loved places in Pensacola.

But Gulf Island National Seashore offers a totally different beach experience. Trees and small shrubs run almost to the water’s edge and become gnarly and ghost-like a few steps from the shore. The Seashore is a quiet place, away from crowds and commercial sites.

Several colleges and universities are nearby. The closest are the University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College, both a few miles east of the Tall Pines community.
