As one of the four counties that make up the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area, Pasco County is located north of Tampa on the west coast of Florida. Dade City, the county seat, is considered a suburb of the Tampa-St. Pete area. Downtown Dade City is a great shopping destination with a wide variety of antique shops. Dade City is home to the Pioneer Florida Museum, a history museum that celebrates the area’s pioneers. The Withlacoochee State Forest, located just north of Dade City, is a popular destination for ATV riders and off-highway motorcyclists. It is home to the Croom Motorcycle Area, which contains 2,600 acres of trails ranging from easy to challenging. To the east of Dade City, the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve is natural Florida at its best. Home to a variety of habitats including river swamp, cypress ponds, oak hammocks, sandhills, and flatwoods, this is a great area for bird-watching. Fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking, bicycling, boating, camping, and canoeing are also popular park activities.
Beautiful Pasco County is home to more than 30 visitor-friendly parks and preserves. Anclote Gulf Park features a fishing pier, boardwalk, and a dog park while Anclote River Park features a playground, beach, boat ramp, and fishing access. Crews Lake Wilderness Park contains nature trails, canoe access, a fishing pier, a bike trail, tent camping, and a stage. The New Port Richey Aquatic Center features a lap pool, a dive pool and water slide, and a kiddie pool. It also offers a skate park, a fitness center, and tennis courts.
Cities in Pasco County include Port Richey, New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, San Antonio, and St. Leo. Other communities include Crystal Springs, Land O’ Lakes, Odessa, Hudson, Holiday, Elfers, Beacon Square, Gulf Harbors, Hudson Beach, and Wesley Chapel.
