Guide to Naples

Naples Apartments For Rent

On the coast of the Gulf of Mexico sits a jewel filled with fabulous shops, exquisite cuisine, breathtaking views, white-sand beaches, and more mansions than you can count. This is Naples and everything here is first-class, world-class. As one of the wealthiest cities in the U.S, Naples is paradise for nature enthusiasts and recreationists, as it offers some of the best and most challenging golf courses around.

Naples, named for the comparison to the bay in Naples, Italy, was founded in the late 1880s. Magazine and newspaper articles during the 1870s and 80s boosted the popularity of the area as they wrote glowingly about the mild climate and abundance of fish and game, comparable to the Italian peninsula. The group of founders made the pier one of their first improvements to the city. This “T” shaped pier, 600 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, made it easy for ships to dock. It has been destroyed three times, but still maintains its original shape.

With its amazing weather, Naples quickly became a go-to winter resort, with social life revolving around the Naples Hotel. The property costs began to climb as the city did. The city of Naples was incorporated in 1949 and soon after the development of several channels, a river, and other bodies of water took place in order to create more access to the Gulf.

Things to Do in Naples:

Naples is a go-to family vacation destination as it offers an assortment of activities for the entire group. There are so many amazing things to do in Naples that you won’t know where to start, but that’s okay because your new Naples apartment allows you to come back again anytime to knock out a few more things. Take part in the recreational activities, the shopping, dining, and attractions that Naples provides for your enjoyment.

When it comes to the attractions in Naples, the natural beauty of the area reigns supreme as there are several major land preserves in the city that bring in large amounts of tourists. The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a popular attraction, with 11,000 acres of landscape and wildlife; there is also a 2.5-mile boardwalk that winds through the sanctuary. The Naples Zoo dates back to 1919 and is home to 70 different species of animals for all its guests to enjoy and learn more about. Go on a guided tour with the Everglades Adventure Tours and enjoy an airboat ride, a swamp buggy ride, an interactive reptile experience, and more.

Recreation in Naples is fantastic as the city is 25 percent water. You could spend all day either on or in the water and still not do all that there is to do. You could get a closer, personal look at nature with See Manatees, or a boat rental at Naples Bay Resort. Naples Bay Resort also has kayak rentals. With a surplus of regional, community, and neighborhood parks, you can have fun playing baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer and more. You can take a nice hiking or biking excursion on any of the local trails, and you can’t forget about golfing. As the self-titled “Golf Capital of the World,” Naples has more than 80 championship golf courses. Hit the green on any of the public courses and enjoy a beautiful day out.

Shopping in Naples is top notch to say the least. With several malls and major shopping avenues, there is no shortage of fashion in Naples. Shopping and dining meet as you stroll around Bayfront. You can find rare, exquisite, and totally unique finds in the shops here as you walk through the European architecture of this Old Naples landmark at the foot of 5th Avenue South. Fifth Avenue South is the main street in Naples and it is overflowing with boutiques, cafes, eateries, antique shops, art galleries, jewelers, design showrooms, and so much more. If you wanted an upscale, one-stop shop, this is it. Great shopping experiences await at other places as well, including Third Street South, Village on Venetian Bay, and the Waterside Shops.

Sidewalk cafes, delis, steakhouses, waterfront restaurants and everything else is available to you when dining in Naples. Whether you wish to go casual or formal, American or international cuisine, there is a place for everyone, every mood, every occasion. If your palette desires Chinese, places like Charlie Chang’s and Szchuan are what the locals are raving about. Being right off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the seafood is bound to be mouth-watering, but for the best seafood, Fuse Global Cuisine and Truluck’s need to be on your list.

What to Consider When Moving to Naples:

There are 12 major neighborhoods in Naples that you should look into before moving to Naples. While the entire city is full of amenities to be enjoyed, each area will have its own spark of personality and will draw a slightly different crowd.

Old Naples is ranked as the best part of the city based on the amount of amenities, entertainment, education, crime, housing and cost of living. It is definitely high-end, but that’s inescapable in Naples. Old Naples is home to notable areas such as Downtown, Fifth Avenue South, Third Street South, Naples Pier, and a lot more. There is a large amount of schools, parks, and libraries and book stores in this area, making it great for families as well.

Port Royal, named for its lavish displays of wealth and prosperity, is the perfect neighborhood for those that love spending time on their yachts. The waterfront properties in this area are home to the social elite, and are served in every way by the Port Royal Club.

Lake Park and Royal Harbor are highly residential areas. With a good amount of shopping, entertainment, schools, dining, parks, and fitness locations, this is a great area for the whole family or for singles. Lake Park and Royal Harbor both have at least 400 single-family homes and mature landscaping along quiet streets for children to play.

For a truly family-oriented neighborhood, Eagle Oak Ridge is the place. Just north of Naples High School, this neighborhood is primarily filled with single-family homes, apartments, condos, and even a trailer park. Eagle Oak Ridge is quiet and has a real family atmosphere. Nearby is Moorings. This neighborhood has large, shading trees that complement the small condos and waterfront homes in the area. River Park is another great area for families. With the cultural and historic background preserved, River Park is a mixture of apartments, single-family houses, churches, businesses, and the River Park community center.

The Park Shore neighborhood has been rebuilt and expanded over the last few decades and is home to a luxury community of houses and condos. Aqualane Shores is designed for the boating community as most of its properties have direct access to the Gulf. Seagate is at the farthest north part of the city and is a quiet area with 90 homes, many of which are waterfront, all sharing a private beach pavilion.

Bear’s Paw is a gated, golf-course community. This neighborhood includes 15 single-family homes, condos, and villas. Bear’s Paw is glowing with lush landscape that surrounds the beautifully designed golf course.
