The neighborhood takes up a block bounded by Northwest 5th Avenue, Northwest 4th Street, Flagler Avenue, and Northwest 2nd Street. It is three blocks from the heart of the arts and entertainment district, the Riverwalk.
The Riverwalk is at once a park, an entertainment area, and an engaging historic district. A discovery science museum and an art museum, cinemas, and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts all crowd together with restaurants and clubs that look out over the New River. A drawbridge opens for pleasure boats and closes for trains.
The brick-paved Riverwalk follows the wide river for more than a mile, then curves away to join Las Olas, a street dedicated to shopping and dining. Las Olas has blocks of shops of every description, and side streets extend the district farther still. Restaurants, bars, and sidewalk cafes stand beside art galleries and near pocket parks and wide plazas. A farmers’ market appears every Sunday, and there are numerous fairs and festivals.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in any of the shops of Las Olas, which has a dog park along the river, and pets are welcome at City View as well.
Neighborhood children attend Walker Elementary, about five blocks away. They continue to Sunrise Middle School, and then to Fort Lauderdale High. The Broward County Schools encourage educational choice, with magnet schools and the Broward Virtual School online.
