Sherwood Forest Apartments for Rent
The highest neighborhood on San Francisco’s highest hill is Sherwood Forest. Panoramic views, large lots, and proximity to the dense groves of the park atop Mount Davidson are hallmarks of this California neighborhood.
By the narrowest definition, Dalewood Way bounds the small hillside community on the north and east, Lansdale Avenue is the boundary to the south and west, and Robinhood Drive hides in the center of Sherwood Forest. Some, however, consider Sherwood Forest to extend west to Yerba Buena Avenue and north to Rockdale Drive. The zip code for the neighborhood is 94127.
Miraloma Elementary School is within blocks of Sherwood Forest. Herbert Hoover Middle School is nearby, and Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts is a local public high school. San Francisco City College, a two-year institution, and San Francisco State University are each within five minutes of the neighborhood.
Several paths go into 38-acre Mount Davidson Park from Sherwood Forest. A network of dog-friendly trails there leads to amazing views. On the north and west sides of the park, rustic stairways descend to other neighborhoods. On some paths, though, San Francisco seems far away, and walkers feel lost in dense forest. In a clearing, a tall, privately-owned concrete cross stands as a memorial to the victims of the Armenian genocide.
Local shopping for Sherwood Forest is in the nearby West Portal neighborhood. Stonestown Galleria is a large mall downhill about a mile to the southwest. Beyond Stonestown is placid Lake Merced, and beyond the double lake are the cliffs and beaches of Fort Funston and Ocean Beach.
