The area is primarily residential, but there are a wide variety of commercial businesses sprinkled throughout the community, including restaurants, shops, and service establishments.

Of the many appealing aspects of Wes LA is the community’s close proximity to the Santa Monica State Beach. This 2-mile stretch along the water edge includes areas for picnicking, and playing volleyball and basketball. To the north outside of the community is the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The rugged coastline of this national park contains sandy beaches and rocky shores, as well as native chaparral. Visitors enjoy hiking, camping, mountain biking, and swimming.
