Usa Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The USA neighborhood is made up of two large entities, The University of South Alabama (USA) and Mentor Graphics and Research Center. USA is a relatively new campus, established in 1963. The USA neighborhood is bound by County Road 70, also known as Old Shell Road, and North University Boulevard in ZIP code 36688. The USA Medical Center is just southeast at Old Shell Road and South University Boulevard.
The newly completed Mentor Graphics and Research Center occupies the northwest quadrant of the neighborhood and represents the first stage in a planned expansion of the USA Research and Technology Park. The Mentor Graphics and Research Center’s grounds complement the open, modern USA campus.
Fans of USA’s baseball team, the Jaguars, will be delighted with the new Stanky Field. The stadium was completed in 2005 and seats 4,500. The university has produced many major league baseball players, fitting for the hometown of Hank Aaron. Those who enjoy the performing arts will delight in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center, home of USA’s music and drama performances.
Nearby are several golf courses, both public and private. The closest is the Azalea City Golf Course which adjoins the USA campus. The Mobile Museum of Art and Mobile Botanical Gardens are a little more than a mile away. The museum area has good walking trails, whether within the Gardens or along the lake at Langan Park. Mobile Tennis Center is less than a mile north of Langan Park.
Nearby Great Gulf State Fairgrounds has the state fair, but there are other events as well, including a Christmas Jubilee, the BBQ Championship and Hog Wild Festival, and occasional concerts.
USA is close to Mobile’s historic district, the city’s top festival sites, and a great fresh-water fishing site, Big Creek Lake. The Mobile Airport is also close.
