With an area of 0.531 square miles, it has a population of just under 2,000 residents. Saint Stephen’s borders the community at its northeast. It is also bordered by Prichard Avenue and several smaller, local streets.

The Bragg-Mitchell Mansion and Museum is two miles to its southeast. The Mobile Museum of Art, which offers both permanent and rotating exhibits, is three miles to its southwest. Saint Ignatius Archives Museum is just over two miles to its southwest.
The neighborhood is also popular for college students, as there are several universities within easy driving distance. Bishop State Community College is a mile and half south of Summerville. The cardiology department of the University of South Alabama is a mile to Summerville’s south, while the university’s main campus is four and a half miles southwest of the community. Spring Hill College, a renowned Jesuit university, is three miles to its southwest.
