Nestled among other residential neighborhoods in the city of Mobile, Riviera is a small, densely populated community. With an area of 0.719 square miles, it has about 3,000 residents. Interstate 10 marks its southern border, and Dauphin Island Parkway borders it to the east. Smaller, local streets provide its other borders.
Riviera is a great area for families. In addition to being within walking distance to several well-regarded schools, there are educational attractions within easy driving distance. Battleship Memorial Park, which draws people from all over the surrounding states, is just over five miles northeast of the neighborhood. The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center is four and a half miles to its northeast; it offers screenings and rotating education exhibits for families.
Several historical landmarks are nearby. The Oakleigh House and Museum, which includes a landmark mansion from the 1830s, is three miles to its northeast, while the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is just over three miles to its north. Mobile Carnival Museums, which celebrates the rich history of Mardi Gras in the city, is only four miles to its northeast; many people do not know that Mardi Gras in the United States originated in Mobile. The Mobile Carnival Association is also nearby.
It’s a popular community for college students, with several renowned universities within five minutes of Riviera. The University of South Alabama Brookley Complex is two miles to Riviera’s east. Spring Hill College, a Jesuit university, is four miles to its northwest. Blue Cliff Career College and Virginia College are just over two miles to its northwest. Bishop State Community College, Enterprise Ozark Community College, and Southwestern State Technical College are within a one-mile radius.
