Pine Grove is a neighborhood of gentle hills and upper-end to estate-like homes. Large magnolias shade the sidewalks. Lawns are exquisite year round, but especially when the azaleas bloom. Pine Grove is bound by Moffett Road and Spring Hill Avenue, just west of I-65. It is in zip code 36618.
Residents find it is an easy walk to the Mobile Museum of Art and Langan Park. The Museum is spectacular and is the largest art museum from New Orleans to Tampa. The 9,000 works span two centuries and there are frequent traveling exhibits. It is across the street from the Play House in the Park. There is a large lake here as well, making for a completely wonderful day of recreational activities.
Also nearby, in the Spring Hill Shopping Center area, are a number of restaurants and the Moorer Spring Hill Library.
Prestigious Spring Hill College is about two miles south of Pine Grove. Not only is Spring Hill the state’s oldest school, founded in 1830, it is the first Catholic school in the southeast and the third oldest Jesuit College in the U. S. Mobile’s largest educational institution is also nearby, the University of South Alabama.
Residents enjoy the convenience of several fine golf courses. Azalea City Golf Club is public, and Mobile Country Club is private, both about two miles south. Golfers may also choose to play at nearby Magnolia Grove Golf Club, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
With such a long history, Mobile has many noteworthy sites. Fort Conde, built by the French, dates to 1723. Blakely Historic Park gives visitors a chance to explore 3,800 acres of earthen forts. Fort Conde is the largest National Register of Historic Places site east of the Mississippi River. There are several antebellum mansions in Mobile.
