Melrose is a small neighborhood located approximately one mile west of the Mobile Regional Airport in Mobile, Alabama. The neighborhood is situated north of Airport Boulevard and east of Snow Road in the 36608 zip code area of Mobile County. Melrose covers less than two square miles, and has a small population of just over 1,000 residents.

The Melrose neighborhood is characterized by a combination of single-family homes and small businesses. Home construction within the neighborhood varies from the typical wood-frame dwellings to manufactured homes. A vast amount of Melrose is undeveloped, especially in the center portion. A majority of residents live near the northern boundary or along Airport Boulevard on the southern edge.

Residents of Melrose are within minutes of many dining choices along Airport Boulevard. Less than two miles to the east of Melrose along Schillinger Road are various shopping venues, including Walmart Supercenter. The Sun Ray Plaza Shopping Center and Westwood Plaza are both located just north of Walmart.

Just minutes south of Melrose on Airport Boulevard is Baker High School. One of the highest-rated middle schools, Causey Middle, is located about two miles to the south. O’Rourke Elementary School is about 2.5 miles to the southeast on Leroy Stevens Road.

For recreational activities, Melrose residents enjoy Cottage Hill Park, located about 4.5 miles southeast. Cottage Hill Park offers tennis courts, a playground, scenic walking trails, picnic areas, and athletic fields. Local anglers enjoy bass fishing at Big Creek Lake. This large waterway is only minutes away to the northwest of Melrose. Boating access for the lake is located at Fox Landing. Residents can also cast a pole from the banks at Fox Landing or the US Highway 98 Bridge.
