The Hillsdale community is centrally located in Mobile and is a great neighborhood for students of the University of South Alabama who wish to live off campus. Commuting between the two is only a four minute drive, making it possible for students to return home for study breaks and meals between classes.
Hillsdale is accessible from four major roads in Mobile. From the north, Zeigler Boulevard leads into Hillsdale. From the south, Old Shell Road brings residents into the community. From the west, Hillsdale is accessible from Cody Road. On the east side of the neighborhood is University Boulevard, which leads directly to the college.
Shopping venues are plentiful within five miles of Hillsdale. There are two malls and several smaller shopping centers and independent stores. The Colonial Bel Air Mall has several specialty stores, apparel shops, and a Books-A-Million.
Ample dining options are available near Hillsdale, with several pizza establishments offering delivery. There are also Chinese delivery options. Restaurants in the area include Red Lobster, Olive Garden, O’Charley’s, Logan’s Roadhouse, and Cracker Barrel.
Public transportation is available via The Wave Transit System, which has nine buses running throughout Mobile County. This service is available on weekdays, with limited hours on Saturday and no buses on Sunday. There are several bicycle, hiking and walking trails in the area, and throughout the University of South Alabama campus.
Entertainment venues are plentiful in Hillsdale. It is only a mile and a half from the Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds, which host several events each year. There are movie theaters, museums, botanical gardens, parks, clubs, and lounges within a fifteen minute commute from the community.
