The Cox-Deasy House is an example of a typical raised Creole cottage found along the Gulf Coast. The Mardi Gras Cottage Museum has Mardi Gras artifacts and costumes from past kings and queens.
Residents and tourists are close to the Mobile Civic Center in downtown Mobile. The 400,000-square foot building hosts conventions, trade shows, entertainment, and sports. An arena, theater, and exposition hall are the three facilities showcased in the center. Entertainment includes rock concerts, the Mobile Ballet, and Broadway musicals.
Residents needing a break from city life are close to Chickasabogue Park, a 1,100-acre outdoor recreation facility and wildlife refuge. Hikers and cyclists share trails that wind through the undeveloped areas of the park. Primitive camping, private RV camping, and tent camping are offered in the park. The more primitive campsites are located along the banks of the Chickasaw Creek. Visitors who canoe the creek will be taking the same routes used by Indians and pirates.
