Ferry Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Ferry neighborhood is made up of small businesses and commercial establishments, with residential areas interspersed. The homes of Ferry range from mid-size ranch homes to rural estates on many fenced acres. The area is mostly open and level, a transition area where urban meets rural. Ferry is bound by Zeigler Boulevard along the south and by Schillinger Road North along the west. Howells Ferry Road runs through the neighborhood.
A special feature of the neighborhood can be found in the southeast quadrant – Great Gulf State Fairgrounds. Of course, the premier event is the October Great Gulf State Fair, with regional food, local performers, and lots of Alabama agriculture exhibits. In December it is the site of the Christmas Jubilee. The Jubilee brings art, authors, crafts, and vendors to the neighborhood site. In March, the BBQ Championship and Hog Wild Festival brings grillmeisters, barrel racing, music, arts, and crafts. There are occasional concerts at the Fairgrounds as well.
But Ferry is close to other great Mobile sites, too. For instance, the Magnolia Grove Golf Club is a couple of miles north. With three separate courses, it was voted one of the top 50 public courses by Golf World magazine’s reader. Golf Digest picked The Falls Course and Crossings Course as “Great Value Places to Play.” The Crossings hosts the Avent LPGA Classic.
Close by are Big Creek Lake, a good fishing lake, Mobile Regional Airport, and The University of South Alabama.
For the residents of Ferry it’s a short drive to Langan Park, the Mobile Museum of Art, and the Mobile Botanical Gardens. All three are clustered in an area just east of the University. The Botanical Gardens offer classes, plant sales, and wonderful walking trails. The Museum has not only an extensive permanent collection, but also brings traveling exhibits.
