The Driftwood community outside of Mobile, Alabama, is located just east of Dauphin Island Parkway and north of Terrell Road. The inviting triangular-shaped community is assigned to the 36605 zip code and is actually sandwiched between Dauphin Island Parkway and the coastline of the massive Mobile Bay. A local public park, McNally Park, can be found to the south of the neighborhood, mere blocks away. Trimmier Park and Casher Cemetery are local landmarks found to the northwest of this desirable residential coastal community.
The Driftwood neighborhood is not only conveniently located for water enthusiasts. Commuters calling this community their home can take full advantage of the Mobile metropolitan area’s local network of interstates. Interstates 65, 165, and 10 all wind through the Mobile downtown district and form a network of convenient travel corridors throughout the surrounding areas. For travel of a longer duration, two regional airports are close to the Driftwood community: Mobile Regional Airport to the northwest and Saint Elmo Airport to the southwest. Roy E. Ray Airport can be accessed a few miles farther south than the Saint Elmo Airport.
The Driftwood community is quite established. Most of the residences in this Mobile area neighborhood were constructed in the 1960s. A few were built prior to that time period in the 1950s, and some were added in the 1970s. The majority of the neighborhood is not comprised of new construction, however.
Many of the homes are single-story models with a combination of vinyl and partial brick exteriors. The topography is defined by rich and lush vegetation with mature trees and ground cover. The landscaping of the local residences is well-maintained and attractive, richly enhancing the curb appeal of the handsome homes in the area.
