Canterbury is a desirable neighborhood located off of Girby Road within the city limits of Mobile. Canterbury is near the most desirable schools, hospitals, businesses, and churches in the area. The neighborhood is nestled among pine trees and oak trees, providing shade for the area. It is a pet-friendly and pedestrian-friendly area, with concrete sidewalks and safe walking trails.

School children living in Canterbury can attend Olive J. Dodge Elementary School and Burns Middle School, two of the most favored schools in the Mobile County Public School System. There are several private schools within three miles of the community, as well. The University of South Alabama is less than a twenty-minute drive from Canterbury.

Local to the Canterbury community are several banks, churches, and locally owned retail shops. Larger shopping venues include a Wal-Mart Supercenter and Sears Home Essentials. Dining options in the area include McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Ryan’s Steakhouse.

Demetropolis Park is located just one mile from Canterbury and has a fenced playground and a ball park. Cottage Hill Park, located three miles from Canterbury, offers restroom facilities, a large playground with a separate toddler playground, tennis courts, hiking and bicycle trails, and a large picnic area with a pavilion.

The Oakwood Swim and Racquet Club is located less than two miles from Canterbury and requires membership. Skyline Country Club is five miles away and offers the nearest golf course.

Entertainment venues near the community include Funtasia Family Fun Center and Carmike 14, located just over a mile away on Highway 90. Historic Bellingrath Gardens and Home is a thirty-minute drive, while the Gulf Coast Exploreum is a twenty-minute drive into Downtown Mobile.
