Campgrounds and vacation areas are offered, but visitors who want to stay for only a day have a long list of outdoor activities to choose from. Picnicking, fishing, swimming, and boating are just the beginning. Other park locations include a demonstration farm and horseback riding facilities.

Residents and visitors are close to the Birmingham Museum of Art. Founded in 1951 and located in the heart of downtown Birmingham, the museum is known for its extensive collection, which includes African, Asian, and European art. The museum has traveling exhibits, special exhibitions, and art on loan from private collections.
