The Huffman neighborhood in Birmingham is located in a mostly urban community with low population density. The neighborhood is middle-class. Couples with families occupy houses, condos, apartments, and mobile homes. Most families live in owner-occupied homes. The average resident is 37 years of age.

Huffman is located along highways 59 and 75. It is directly south of Spring Lake neighborhood and north of South Roebuck neighborhood. The major bus line in Jefferson County is the Metro Area Express (MAX). This public transportation system serves residents and tourists. Amtrak has daily service to Atlanta, New Orleans and New York. The Birmingham International Airport is near Huffman.

Huffman is close to the attractions and destinations of Downtown Birmingham. The neighborhood is close to the Birmingham Zoo. As one of the South’s biggest zoos, the Birmingham Zoo has birds, reptiles, mammals and rare animals housed in natural settings. There is also a children’s zoo, predator exhibit and educational programs. The zoo also has a train and carousel for the children.

Historic Vulcan Park was established in 1904 and is named after the Roman god of fire and the forge. The family-friendly, 10-acre park is built around a 56-foot statue of Vulcan. From an observation deck, visitors may view the stunning views of Birmingham.

The University of Alabama (UOA) is close to Huffman. On the campus of UOA is the Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences. Located on the third floor of the Lister Library, the museum displays equipment and instruments dating back seven centuries. Exhibits from the fields of medicine and dentistry include an anatomical model, surgical instruments and an iron lung.

Huffman is near the 1,000-acre Ruffner Mountain Nature Center. The forest and wildlife sanctuary has educational programs and exhibits at the Tree Top Visitor Center.
