Harriman Park Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Harriman Park is a nice old fashioned neighborhood with single story wood panel and block homes in Birmingham, Alabama. Small, well maintained shrubs are typical here, with light tree cover providing just enough shade for the ever popular backyard barbecue. While the neighborhood itself lacks sidewalks, it is still common to find residents actively walking along the streets. With little commercial development in the immediate area, streets are typically only used by those living there.
East of the neighborhood is a large train yard where many children pump their fists hoping to hear the toot of a horn or plume of smoke come out of the top of the train. Little do the children know, this is a major transfer area for goods coming in and out of the Birmingham region. Just beyond the train yard is the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport. Birmingham Shuttlesworth provides the majority of the air travel throughout the area providing flights around the country and the world.
Harriman Park is also a great place for families with several schools such as Hudson K-8 off of Shuttlesworth Drive, Mount Laurel Elementary School off of Jefferson Place, and Inglenook Elementary School off of Inglenook Street. All of the schools are within a mile of the neighborhood and along with Inglenook Library on 40th Terrace provide the educational backbone for the community.
A number of parks such as Maclin Park and East Birmingham Park provide a variety of activities from perfect trails for walking and running, ponds for feeding ducks, or just playgrounds. They are also home to youth athletic leagues.
