Glen Iris Neighborhood

South of downtown Birmingham, Alabama along Interstate 65, is the neighborhood of Glen Iris. It is bordered on the north and northeast by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Glen Iris is a mixed neighborhood of single-family homes, condos, and apartments. Listings for homes and condos here run from around $39,000 to over $650,000.

No less than three parks are in or surround Glen Iris – Glen Iris Park, Red Mountain Park, and Ward Park — featuring five baseball diamonds.

Red Mountain, which borders Glen Iris to the south, is actually part of the “Ridge and Valley” region of the Appalachian Mountains. It is not only a 1,100- acre park (bigger than Central Park, NY) it also contains the largest and most prestigious homes and estates in the Birmingham area.
