In addition to running and walking trails, sports fields and shade trees, the Vulcan Museum and statue, one of Birmingham’s icons. This statue and museum is of the Roman god of the forge and was seen as a symbol of the city’s growing industry and at 56-feet-tall, is the largest cast iron statue in the world.

Local restaurants flourish in Five Points South, including local favorite Giuseppe’s Cafe, an Italian and espresso bar. This restaurant is kid-friendly, but also described as “romantic,” for those seeking a date-night spot. Popular bars include Five Points Grill, Dave’s Bar and Highlands Bar and Grill.

Hotels in the area include Courtyard Birmingham Downtown, Residence Inn Birmingham and the Doubletree Hotel for those interested in an urban stay. Also located near these hotels are the medical facilities and clinics under the UAB’s schools of dentistry, optometry and medicine.
