Schools that Minor students attend include T.T. Minor Elementary School, Seahawks Academy Middle School, Garfield High School, as well as Nova High School. College students can attend Seattle University, located just west of Minor, in the First Hill community. Seattle University is the largest independent university in the Northwest, enrolling over 7,500 students.
A variety of medical facilities nearby, including Harborview Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center, and Swedish Medical Center, provide top quality healthcare to area residents, as well as thousands of jobs in the healthcare related field.
Although small in comparison to some larger area parks, Cal Anderson Park was recognized as one of the nation’s best parks in 2009 by Forbes.com. This park features a gorgeous fountain, texture pool, and reflecting pool, walking paths, beautiful landscaping, a plaza, children’s play area, wading pool, lighted sports field, and a number of oversized chess boards.
Art lovers will enjoy numerous area art attractions. For those who enjoy galleries and museums, the Frye Art Museum, located just west of Minor, features a vast collection of 19th and 20th century American, German, and French paintings. For those who are aspiring artists themselves, Pratt Fine Art Center provides an encouraging environment where everyone from novice artists to professionals can enroll in classes, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry, metals, screen-printing, or glassblowing.
