Oak Grove is located inside the squared corners of Wurzbach Parkway, Wetmore Road, Thousand Oaks Drive, and Bulverde Road. In the heart of the Oak Grove community is a large pond. McAllister Park is set in the northwestern corner of the community. On the southern flank lies Lady Bird Johnson Park.
McAllister Park is managed by San Antonio’s Parks and Recreation department. A dog park, athletic fields, picnic areas, BBQ pits, nature trails, and space for family activities and outdoor events can all be found on the park’s 900 acres of recreational land.
Lady Bird Johnson Park offers playground equipment, making it a popular spot for local families to take their children out to play. The park also offers a basketball court, athletic fields, a community center, and a creek. Local residents also enjoy the nearby Time Warner Park.
Schulmeier Cemetery and the Texas Transportation Museum are both with Oak Grove’s boundaries. The excellent Transportation Museum offers great family activities, allows children train rides while their parents learn about the area’s history.
The southeast corner of Oak Grove is home to the Animal Defense League. Local residents enjoy volunteering or adopting animals from this thriving animal rescue center. Low cost vaccination clinics are also popular at this facility.
The Academy of Creative Learning, the Bo Peep Learning Center, and New Horizons Childcare are just a few of the many childcare facilities and daycare centers available to families.
Public bus transportation is abundant in the area, and the San Antonio International Airport is also close by.
