Woodlands of Camino Real Neighborhood

The Woodlands of Camino Real is located just next to Bluffview of Camino Real in northeast San Antonio in ZIP code 78216. The upscale neighborhood is conveniently located just a short distance from U.S. Highway 281, which can be accessed by West Bitters Road, the eastern most boundary of the subdivision. The community lies between Inwood Park, Stone Wood Drive, Wood Valley Drive, and Woodway Forest Drive. The neighborhood extends as far south as West Avenue and as far east as West Bitters Road.

The residences in this subdivision are a mix of one- and two-story buildings, most of which are situated on lots of approximately one-third of an acre. Most houses are just over 2,500 square feet and vary in styles, including one custom home that was designed by Mike School, and were, for the most part, built in the early to middle 1980s. However, many have been updated to suit the tastes of today’s discriminating homeowners.

The area, though in the heart of an urban community, is very wooded, making it seem far more private and secluded. It is also quite close to Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park, which is located at Nakoma and West Avenue. The park has a gorgeous pavilion that was made with trusses that were fabricated in Birmingham Alabama around the turn of the 20th century. The trusses were used in several San Antonio buildings before they were brought to M & M Construction, the company that ultimately gave the trusses to the park.

The park has a playscape and a paved trail consisting of 0.5 miles and an unpaved walking and hiking trail that spans roughly a mile.

Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park is actually part of a significant larger archeological site. It is believed that the area, near the confluence of Panther and Salado Creeks, was a favorite site of hunting and gathering people over the course of thousands of years.
