South Windemere Neighborhood

Those who love the great outdoors will find the Charleston neighborhood of South Windermere a great place to call home. The neighborhood, also known as “Old Windermere,” is a residential neighborhood with a mix of old and new homes that is located just minutes from downtown Charleston.

Homes in the neighborhood of South Windermere generally follow architectural styles from the 1930s through 1950s, although new town homes run along Windermere Boulevard. The more traditional two-story brick homes and cottage-style residences line Charleston Road, Chadwick Drive, and Tarleton Drive.

The South Windermere neighborhood is surrounded by creeks, wetlands, and large trees, making this lush landscape a perfect setting for outdoor activities. This peaceful neighborhood is conveniently located near some of the south’s top-rated schools and medical facilities.

Great dining and shopping fill the area as well. The South Windermere Shopping Center is a prominent Charleston shopping hub. This mall is full of great specialty and antique shops. Just behind the shopping mall sits the West Ashley Greenway, a scenic ten-mile trail for hikers and cyclists to enjoy the area’s surrounding ponds and wetlands.

For those who enjoy boating, the Wappo Cut boat landing is conveniently located just minutes from the South Windermere neighborhood. This public boat launch is the second busiest in the county, and ideal for boaters of all kinds, from power boaters to kayakers. Summer weekends mean busy waterways in the South Windermere neighborhood.
