Goose Hollow Neighborhood

South of West Burnside between 21st Avenue and 25th Avenue lies a neighborhood of tree-covered hills and valleys that make up the southwest side of Downtown Portland. Goose Hollow is bordered on the South by Highway 26.

Most of the construction in Goose Hollow is built to fit into the hilly terrain. There are a number of apartments and condos in this neighborhood, making it an exceptional area for Portland State University students, young adults looking for excitement in downtown Portland, and retired people who wish to rent. Eighty-six percent of the homes are rented.

Goose Hollow is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods of Portland, and rental properties move very quickly. The main zip code is 97205, and a small area uses the 97201 zip code.

Goose Hollow is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Portland. The story is told that it received its rather quaint name because many of the early residents raised geese and they allowed them to wander freely throughout the hollow.

This part of Portland is considered a green transportation area. Many of the residents walk or ride a bike. For those who prefer public transportation, the TriMet bus system has several routes through the community, and the Max light rail has three stops through the center of Goose Hollow. It is only a five- or six-minute drive by car to the center of downtown Portland.

Goose Hollow has two landmarks that allow it to outshine other Portland neighborhoods: Oregon’s oldest high school, Lincoln High, and the PGE Park that is home to the Portland Timbers, Portland’s professional soccer team.

Washington Park, one of Portland’s oldest parks, is an important part of Goose Hollow. Here, residents can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and other attractions such as the Oregon Zoo, the famous Rose Garden and the Children’s Museum.
