Rose City Park Neighborhood

Rose City Park in Portland was once considered an ideal place for NABISCO. The company felt the neighborhood was ideal for its proximity to a rail system. The company abandoned the project; however, the Rose City Park managed without.

The residential, industrial, and commercial community still has the advantage of being near major infrastructures, such as the MAX light-rail station and tracks, a freeway, and proximity to an airport for the Portland Air National Guard near the Columbia River.

The community is bound by Banfield Expressway (Interstate 84) to the south; 72nd Drive and 70th Avenue to the west; and Sandy Boulevard to the north. Sandy Boulevard and Banfield Expressway intersection forms its western border.

Like so many communities in Portland, Rose City Park has several parks, including Rose City Municipal Park. This park has a soccer field and tennis court, and is on the western edge of Rose City Golf Course, the second oldest course in Portland.

The other parks are Normandale Park and Frazer Park near Banfield Expressway. Normandale has two fenced sections where dog owners can unleash their dogs. Also in the southeast section of the park is Erv Lind Stadium and baseball/softball field. ASA Women’s Fast Pitch National Championship is played here.

Rose City Park is located near a major freeway and light-rail system. The two transit systems are near each other. North East 60th Avenue station can be found where 60th and Banfield Expressway intersect. The Red, Green and Blue line run through it, connecting the community with downtown.

This is also near one of the community’s industrial and commercial sectors. Many of these businesses can be found along the expressway.

Schools are located outside the community. Madison High School near the golf course is the closest one. There are several preschools south of the freeway.
