Downtown Neighborhood

Downtown Boise is a metropolitan neighborhood and the location of the Idaho State Capitol. The neighborhood is the site of the cultural and business districts of Boise. 8th Street in Downtown Boise is a pedestrian friendly, historic area known for its cafes, restaurants, shops, and movie theaters.

The neighborhood occupies 28.1 square miles. Its borders include North 16th Street, West State Street, and West Fort Street. The middle-class neighborhood has houses, condominiums, and townhouses. Mostly married couples with families live here, and the average resident is 34 years old.

Indoor sports spectators are close to Quest Arena. The Idaho Stampede, an NBA development basketball team, has its home games at the arena. The Idaho Steelheads, ECL hockey champions, are an arena team. The arena also hosts entertainment, trade shows, conventions, and fine dining.

The neighborhood is north of Boise State University and Bronco Stadium. It is home to the collegiate championship football team, the Boise State Broncos, and is the only football stadium using blue athletic turf.

Family-friendly Julia Davis Park is located north of Boise State University and contains Zoo Boise, Pioneer Village, and the Idaho State Historical Museum.

Established in 1916, Zoo Boise has native animals and animals from all over the world. At the Idaho State Historical Museum, the exhibits include old frontier and pioneer settlements. It is the largest and most popular museum in Idaho. Located next to the Idaho State Historical Museum is the Pioneer Village, where visitors may explore original historic dwellings.

The kid-friendly Discovery Center is nearby. The science museum has exhibits and allows hands-on, educational activities for the children.

Downtown Boise is close to sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Boise Capitol Area District, the Ada Theater/Egyptian Theater, and the Alexander House.
