Downtown Jacksonville Neighborhood

An aggressive development pace has been steady in Downtown in the past decade. Since 2000, there has been more than $1.7 billion in public and private investment ongoing or completed. The boundaries of Downtown are I-95 to the south and west, State Street to the north and the St. Johns River to the east.

Downtown has more than five miles of riverfront and three miles of riverfront trails. Major neighborhoods in the Downtown area include Brentwood, Brooklyn, East Jacksonville, Fairfield, Hogans Creek, LaVilla, Longbranch, Midtown, Mid-Westside, Moncrief, Phoenix, Springfield, Southside, Tallyrand, and 29th and Chase. Downtown is the company headquarters for Rayonier, Steinmart, and Interline.

Encompassing more than 2,400 homes in its residential communities in the 32202 zip code area, Downtown also offers an urban lifestyle with options like luxury condos and apartments. It’s easy to get around Downtown via various modes of public transportation, including buses, trolleys, river taxis, and the skyway.

The major congregation spot in Downtown is Jacksonville Landing, a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex overlooking the St. Johns River. More than 350 events a year are staged at Jacksonville Landing, including Florida/Georgia Weekend Celebrations, annual Christmas Tree Lighting, New Year’s Eve, and Gator Bowl Celebrations, St. Patrick’s Day, and July 4th festivities. Packed with restaurants and shops, the complex also has nightclubs where young, hip, urban types hang out, like The Twisted Martini, Mavericks Rock N’ Honky Tonk, and Miss Ellie’s Bardello.

The hippest way to visit Jacksonville Landing is by boat. There is docking on both sides of the St. Johns River and marinas welcome boaters from all over. Bay Street is another place to see and be seen in Downtown at clubs like Dive Bar, Mark’s Downtown Club/Lounge, and The Ivy Ultra Bar.

Downtown has more than 20 cultural venues, including the Museum of Contemporary Art – Jacksonville and the Museum of Science and History. Jacksonville residents are huge sports fans and Downtown is home to the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, the minor league baseball team the Jacksonville Suns, and the arena football league team the Jacksonville Sharks.
